Jim vs. Shoulder & Suitcase Deadlifts

I like this variation

Clean a sandbag to one shoulder, do 5 KB suitcase deadlifts with the opposite hand
50lb bag/53lb bell x 5
50lb bag/53lb bell x 5
50lb bag/53lb bell x 5
50lb bag/53lb bell x 5
50lb bag/53lb bell x 5

Jim vs. Shoulder & Suitcase Deadlifts

I named this “Bartons” or something similar, back in the day, because they simulated some of the weird lifts I had to do moving stuff into Barton Hall for orientation events. No events like that this year, but…

Barton: clean a sandbag to one shoulder, do 5 KB suitcase deadlifts with the opposite hand
50lb bag/53lb bell x 5
50lb bag/53lb bell x 5
50lb bag/53lb bell x 5
50lb bag/53lb bell x 5
50lb bag/53lb bell x 5

Jim vs. the KB Klokov Complex

I knew my work schedule wouldn’t allow for a barbell break today, so I decided to do some strength work at home. I’d been wanting to try to Klokov with kettlebells, and here’s what I came up with:

Kettlebell Klokov complex: Double KB suitcase deadlift, double KB squat clean, double KB rack squat, double KB push press, double KB split jerk

So, first I did two rounds of this, taking about a minute break. But that felt too easy. So what I ended up doing then was:

Kettlebell Klokov complex x 2, on the minute for nine minutes

And that freaking demolished me. I did it, but had to curl up on the floor for a few minutes after I was done. Still, seems like a good decision.

Jim vs. 737

That doesn’t seem to be the official name for this workout, but it should be.

Five rounds for time of:
Double KB suitcase deadlifts x 7
Squats x 30
KB see-saw shoulder press x 7

The first and last exercise, as Rx’d, were deadlifts and handstand push-ups. I made the subs because I’m home, because I don’t have a HSPU yet, and because the see-saw presses sounded more interesting than HSPU progressions.

I finished in 9:51, and so ends my first week back to CrossFit Brand X programming.

Jim vs. the Barton Complex, Sandbag Get-ups and Pull-ups

Home again today, and decided that I needed to do more work with the sandbags. Including something I’ve been thinking about doing since August.

The Barton Complex
Clean a sandbag to one shoulder
With the opposite hand, perform 5 kettlebell suitcase deadlifts
Put down the sandbag
Perform complex a total of six times, three per side

This is somewhat of my own devising, based on an incident in August when I was carrying a box of orientation supplies out of Barton Hall on one shoulder and bent down to pick an umbrella up off the ground with my other hand. I barely kept myself from tumbling over, and it seemed like a good basis for a workout. I’m sure I’ve seen photos of folks doing similar movements, but I’ve never seen it described. So, I described it, then performed it using the 50lb bag and the 53lb bell.

Then:

Supersets x 4 of
Sandbag get-ups x 3
Pull-ups x 10

Used the 25lb bag for this, since I’ve never done sandbag get-ups before. Overall, today went well. It’s fun to try new things.
